Hiker rescued after misstep in Deep Cove

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — A 28-year-old woman was rescued while hiking towards Quarry Rock Saturday.

The call came in around 12 p.m. Both firefighters and paramedics were sent to the scene.

The woman was treated on the scene with pain medication and her ankle was splinted, according to Assistant Chief Jeremy Duncan with District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services.

“She rolled her ankle or misstepped,” he says. “She ended up suffering what they probably perceived as a dislocated ankle.”

A rescue crew carried the woman off the trail and to the ambulance.

Duncan stresses the importance of preparation, even on short hikes.

“Make sure you’re wearing proper footwear and you’re prepared for the hike,” he says. “Take your time and make sure you have sure-footing when you’re hiking and hopefully you won’t have to get carried out of the trails.”

Now that fall is on its way, Duncan says hikers should be aware of rapidly changing weather around Lynn Valley and Deep Cove.
