State police release traffic statistics for holiday weekend

HARTFORD, Conn. — Connecticut State Police say troopers made more than 40 arrests for driving under the influence and issued about 500 citations during Labor Day weekend.

The State Police released Labor Day traffic statistics Monday morning. Extra troopers were sent out on the highways for the holiday weekend to target drunken drivers, distracted drivers and other hazards.

State Police say they responded to more than 5,700 calls for service, helped about 250 motorists and responded to about 360 accidents, including one fatality.

Forty-three people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Most of the citations were issued for speeding. Drivers were also cited for seatbelt violations and distracted driving.

The additional patrols started at midnight Friday and run through Monday night.
