MISSISSAUGA, ON. — Police near Toronto say an 88-year-old woman has died after she was attacked with a weapon Tuesday night in Mississauga.

Const. Akhil Mooken with Peel Regional Police said investigators believe the attack was “isolated and targeted,” and they aren’t looking for any other suspects.

Police were called to a home in the Shelby Crescent and Willowbank Trail area at around 6:15 p.m. where the victim was found with critical injuries. She was rushed to a trauma centre but died in hospital.

Const. Mooken said the suspect, a 52-year-old man, surrendered to police and is in custody. The victim and suspect were known to each other, he added, but the nature of their relationship has not been revealed.

It’s not yet clear what weapon was used in the attack.
