Brazil police issue 105 warrants in child pornography probe

RIO DE JANEIRO — Brazil’s federal police have issued 105 arrest warrants in an international probe against internet child pornography.

The country’s justice ministry said Wednesday the warrants were for suspects in Brazil as well as in the United States, Paraguay, Chile, Panama, Ecuador and El Salvador.

It said that so far 31 people had been arrested, one of whom was caught in the U.S. state of Michigan.

Officials say investigators analyzed more than 300,000 files in order to identify the targets of Wednesday’s operation.

This is the fifth raid of its kind, since the operation was launched in 2017. Hundreds of people have been arrested.

The biggest operation was in May 2018, when authorities issued 579 warrants, resulting in 251 arrests.
