SURREY (NEWS 1130) – One person is dead after a shooting at 16th Ave. and 160th St. in Surrey early Friday morning.

The Surrey RCMP says they have two people in custody and while they have not identified them, say the parties involved in the “altercation” knew one another. Officers don’t believe there is any risk to the public.

It happened at about 12:30 a.m., right on the border with White Rock. One neighbour said he did not hear any shots, despite being awake with his window open.

“I’ve lived here for 12 years, nothing like this has happened. Everything is getting displaced,” the man, who declined to give his name, told NEWS 1130. “Now people are getting shot here in South Surrey, in a nice area of Surrey.”

Police have not identified the victim. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken over the investigation.

160th is closed north of 16th while police work in the area and could be closed all morning. Tune in to NEWS 1130 every ten minutes on the ones for the latest on road closures.
