VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A massive cruise ship is docked in North Vancouver and will be there for a couple of weeks as it undergoes major upgrades.
The MS Regatta, a 30,000 tonne, 680 passenger vessel, is parked in Lower Lonsdale while refit work happens around the clock.
Seaspan Vancouver Drydock, where the repairs are taking place, predicts the project will bring roughly $10 million to the local economy through payroll, the hiring of local suppliers and by workers spending money in the area while working on it.
The ship is set to have its hull stripped and recoated, and the propulsion system and rudder are being updated. There will also be aesthetic upgrades done inside.
The MS Regatta will be docked in the area until Sept. 21.
