Party leaders have a united target in Justin Trudeau as campaigning kicks off

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – As the election campaign begins, the leaders of three of the main parties have a united target – Justin Trudeau. The leaders of the NDP, Conservatives and Greens launched their campaigns Wednesday with some choice words about Canada’s incumbent prime minister.

At a campaign kickoff in London, Ontario, NDP leader Jagmeet Singh had a quick answer to a question this morning as he got off his campaign bus: “I’m ready.”

Singh said four years ago, Trudeau charmed Canadians with pretty words and empty promises.

“He didn’t really ask people or consult whether Canada could afford to buy a pipeline, and he spent $4.5 billion on a pipeline.”

Conservative leader Andrew Scheer didn’t wait for the writ to drop before attacking Trudeau again over the SNC-Lavalin affair, and as he launched his campaign in Quebec, he took another swing.

“We have been telling Canadians and showing Canadians how Justin Trudeau has consistently misled them – he has lied,” Scheer said.

And Green Party leader Elizabeth May was in Victoria, stressing trust in leadership.

“When you know you’re voting for a candidate, a party, and a leader who has your back, who earns your trust, who never lets you down,” she said.

Scheer is headed to the Toronto area on Wednesday night, while Trudeau is expected in Vancouver.

The candidates have 40 days of campaigning ahead of them. The election takes place Oct. 21.
