VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Police have arrested one person in connection with the suspicious death of a 29-year-old in the West End this week.

Vancouver police say the death is now being investigated as a homicide.

On Tuesday, police were called to a home along Pendrell Street near Thurlow Street around 8:00 p.m. after some sort of a fight. Kyle Vincent Gabriel was found badly hurt.

The VPD says he was taken to the hospital, but later died.

Police say they arrested a 23-year-old Vancouver man by the heritage home near where Gabriel was found, a day after his death. According to the VPD, the suspect reportedly assaulted an officer during the arrest, and tried to hurt a police dog.

While no charges have been laid, the VPD is recommending charges of assaulting a police officer and assaulting a police service dog to Crown Counsel.

Police said earlier in the week the public was not at risk, and that they believed this to be an isolated incident.

Investigators would like to speak with anyone who may have more information. You can get in touch with the VPD’s homicide detectives at 604.717.2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1.800.222.8477.
