Suspected impaired driver arrested in Langley after hitting two students in one afternoon

LANGLEY (NEWS 1130) — An 18-year-old and a 12-year-old were both taken to hospital Friday afternoon after being struck by what appears to be the same car driven by an impaired driver in Langley.

Mounties say the 12-year-old is in critical condition. The driver of the car is believed to have been impaired by alcohol, but has refused a breathalyzer.

Police were called to the area around 232nd Street near 50th Avenue around 3:30. Witnesses told police the car had left the scene.

“It’s alleged that the passenger in the vehicle, the male, was actually pushing the vehicle to move it away from the police officers,” says Cst. Holly Largy with Langley RCMP. “Subsequently, we found out that the vehicle had been involved in another collision earlier in the afternoon near Langley Senior Secondary where an 18-year-old boy had been struck by we believe the same car by the mirror on the vehicle.”

The 18-year old was taken to hospital but his injuries are not life-threatening.

Both the driver, a 29-year-old woman, and the passenger, a male remain in custody.

Anyone who witnessed either collision and has not spoken to police is asked to call Langley RCMP at (604) 532-3200.

Police also want any information about the driving pattern of the car–a dark blue Nissan Rogue–prior to the collisions.

A large stretch of 232nd Street south of 56th Avenue is expected to remain closed until midnight on Friday.
