Point Grey school again at risk of closure: vice principal

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Queen Elizabeth Annex is again at risk of being closed, according to the school’s vice principal.

In a letter addressed to parents, Mark Cormack says the Vancouver School Board will be looking at a report from district staff in a meeting on Monday. That report recommends the board consider closing the school as of July 1, 2020.

The idea of closing the school was also floated in February, when the board said it only had an enrollment of 77 per cent. And QEA is projected to dip to 54 per cent by 2027.

The school, at King Edward Ave. and Crown St., has students from kindergarten to grade three.

Cormack says in the letter that the final decision won’t be made until Jan. 27, and even then, there would be multiple opportunities for members of the school community to give feedback on the decision.

“It is important to note that no decision has been made at this time,” he says. “Please remember that input from our school community is essential, and required, prior to the Board making any decision about the closure of QEA.”
