Gas thieves drilling, emptying car fuel tanks in Langley: reports

LANGLEY (NEWS 1130) – Gasoline thieves are once again drilling into vehicle gas tanks and making off with the fuel, with a number of people living in Langley reporting the issue to police and on social media.

Alisa Corscadden says her elderly father, who has Parkinson’s Disease, lost a tank of gas.

“He went down to fill it up again, I guess he figured he didn’t know what had happened, and the gas all started pouring out of the tank,” she says. “They had to close off the gas station and everything. He still doesn’t have it fixed because it’s an older truck, so they’re looking for an actual tank to replace it.”

Corscadden says she believes it happened during the night last week.

“He’s stressed out about the whole thing. It just happened one night, I guess. He had about $75 worth of gas in there, my mom said. I’m not surprised with the gas prices, I guess, but it’s pretty brazen to do it right in your driveway. They’ve installed these lights on their driveway so people don’t come on, but who knows?”

Sami Alford was in Fort Langley for about three hours when her truck was hit by thieves.

“My gas was across the entire back parking lot. I was like, ‘Well, did I run something over? Did I leave something open?’ [I] was trying to trace my steps back because I didn’t know someone had drilled it, right away, and then when I found out someone had drilled, I was just shocked,” she says.

Thieves have targeted Langley and North Delta in the past, and this summer saw a similar rash of drilling thefts.

NEWS 1130 has reached out to the RCMP for information on the thefts and any investigation but has not yet heard back.
