Vancouver Giants season kicks off with home opener in Langley

LANGLEY (NEWS 1130) – It will be especially busy on 200th Street in Langley on Friday night. It’s the home opener for the Vancouver Giants.

Dan O’Connor, the voice of the major junior hockey team, expects a good crowd at the Langley Events Centre on Sept. 27 and throughout the season.

“Fans got a real taste of it last year during the playoffs, as to what that building can be like when it’s full, when it’s rocking, and we can look forward to a full season of that starting tonight.”

The Giants came within one goal of winning the Western Hockey League final last season.

“There’s an expectation this season to be right back there, and that’s from the coaching staff, that’s from the players, that’s from the ownership and that’s from the fans.”

O’Connor says he expects it to be loud this season.

“During the playoffs it was rocking, it was the place to be and I definitely think that there’s a trickle effect, for sure.”

Puck drop against the Portland Winterhawks is at 7:30 p.m.
