KAMLOOPS (NEWS 1130) — A skydiving accident in Saturday has claimed the life of a well-known Kamloops lawyer.
Don Campbell, 60, was in the process of landing at a field near the airport yesterday, when he encountered problems with his parachute, according to local media.
Campbell practiced law in Kamloops for 35 years, and he rose to prominence when he defended people charged with offences during the Gustafsen Lake standoff in 1995.
He went on to become a prominent criminal defence lawyer, and served on the board of the Association of Legal Aid Lawyers.
As a skydiver, he performed 3,000 jumps and travelled around the world to compete.
Comments on social media describe him as a beloved friend, fierce advocate, and a fixture at the Kamloops courthouse.
