Surrey RCMP caution buyers after multiple buy and sell robberies

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – After a string of robberies targeting online shoppers, Surrey RCMP warns of the risks with meeting strangers in person.

There have been four separate robberies targeting people who use the buy-and-sell app “Let Go.” Each person was robbed after planning to buy a cellphone from an advertiser.

This isn’t the first time safety concerns were raised around the app. Last month a man was pepper sprayed by two teens who were advertising a cell phone.

The Vancouver man, who requested to remain anonymous, says the teens demanded to see his money before they showed him the phone during a meet up in Surrey. When he refused, he says the two teens pepper sprayed him, and one of them chased him.

While he was able to keep his money, the man says he was traumatized by the event.

Mounties say the suspects in the recent robberies are described as two dark-skinned male teens.

They’re reminding you to avoid safety risks by meeting in a public place, never meeting at your home, and to take a friend along to meet a buyer or seller.
