SEATTLE (NEWS 1130) — B.C. and Washington are expanding plans to build local economies by investing more in renewable sources.
Promoting and profiting from clean energy is the focus of the Clean Grid Initiative next spring.
Premier John Horgan and Governor Jay Inslee say the summit follows through on commitments both jurisdictions have already made.

Horgan says the current energy supply is already among the cleanest and most affordable in the world, but: “There’s a whole bunch of renewable energy sources that we need to get on to our grid and if we can lead the way, by demonstrating cooperation and collaboration, that’ll be a signal to other jurisdictions to follow suit.”
He adds clean energy gives B.C. a regional competitive advantage.
Inslee say it’s all about growing Pacific Northwest economies by providing affordable and environmentally-friendly electricity.
“This has a benefit to share what we’ve done with our constituencies, so that they can have confidence that when they act, they’re not alone,” he says.
“We will find a way for our policy experts to give us choices and teeing up ideas for our respective jurisdiction.”
Speaking at this year’s Cascadia Innovation Conference in Seattle, Horgan says no date or location has been set for the summit.
Both leaders also talked about plans to connect B.C. with a high speed rail line through Washington and Oregon, along with hopes to get rid of time changes by this time next year.
