Environmentalist Ben West says the Conservatives have less credibility than any other party on climate issues

He says much more needs to be done when it comes to environmental issues

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Is Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau a climate hypocrite for using two planes on his campaign? One environmental campaigner says Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer shouldn’t be throwing stones.

Environmentalist Ben West sighs when asked about the Conservative party’s attack on Trudeau’s use of two planes at the French language debate on Oct. 2.

“There’s no political party in Canada with less credibility on climate change than the Conservative party,” he says. “That being said, does Justin Trudeau need two planes to get around the country? Maybe not.”

And West adds that the Liberals buying carbon offsets to make up for the cross country air travel doesn’t fix the problem.

West says for any government to make a real difference on environmental issues it needs carbon budgets, clear targets and a realistic sense of how they will be reached.

“We really haven’t seen that from any political party,” West says.

He suggests the Liberals have done more than the Conservatives in recent years on climate change, but that much more needs to be done.
