Emily Carr University closed until after Thanksgiving

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Classes at Emily Carr University will remain closed until the day after Thanksgiving.

The University now says many classrooms and shops are not yet safe for use following a small fire on Saturday, October 5th.

That suspected arson followed a break-in and is still under investigation by Vancouver Police.

Most of the fire damage was contained to some offices and studios on Level 4, while other areas have suffered water damage.

All standing water has been removed, air quality is healthy and fire sprinkler heads have been replaced by staff, and all electrical, fire safety and security systems are fully functioning.

Missed classes will be rescheduled.
