DELTA (NEWS 1130) – Delta Police are now confirming a large fire that broke out at an abandoned home is being considered suspicious.

The home near 8A Avenue and 54 Street was completely engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived at the scene at 9:20 pm on Monday, October 7th.

Two other nearby homes were also damaged in the fire, with a few families being forced from their homes.

Police say all homes damaged by the fire were vacant and slated to be demolished.

Cris Leykauf with Delta Police says arson is likely a factor in this case.

“Police believe these fires are suspicious in nature,” says Leykauf. “Officers are still looking to speak with witnesses from this night, particularly a male seen on a bike by several witnesses.”

She adds they don’t believe this fire was related to other fires in the area.
