Seismic upgrades cause overnight closures for the Pattulo Bridge

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS 1130) – If your commute includes the Pattulo Bridge, you might be in for delays as overnight closures take effect.

The closures start October 15th until November 4th and apply to northbound traffic on some evenings.

Translink is suggesting drivers who use the Bridge overnight plan to use an alternate route such as the Port Mann or Alex Fraser Bridge.

Certain bus trips will also be re-routed over the Queensborough Bridge, with customers told to plan for an additional 30 minutes added to their commute.

The closure is for crews to install an early seismic activity and wind warning system.

These installations include seismic activity sensors, bridge closure devices, fiber optic cables, and advanced warning lights and signs.

Once installed, the new system will block entry to the bridge in the event of an earthquake. The installation will likely be completed by the end of the year.
