Vancouver man arrested, charged in connection with Emily Carr University fire

Students are returning to the Emily Carr University of Art + Design – after a fire shut the school down for 10 days. As @GS_Harper reports, Vancouver Police have arrested a man who now faces several charges related to the blaze.

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fire at Emily Carr University earlier this month.

Vancouver police say Nathan MacLeod was taken into custody on Friday and has been charge with two counts of break and enter and one count of arson.

MacLeod is expected in Vancouver Provincial Court on Tuesday.

A fire broke out in the morning of Oct. 5, and police were called to the university on East 1st Avenue just after 8:30 a.m. after it was deemed suspicious.

The damage resulting from the flames forced the closure of Emily Carr for several days.

While an arrest has been made and charges have been laid, the VPD is still looking to speak with anyone who may have information about what happened. You can get in touch with the VPD’s Major Crime Section at 604.717.2541, or contact Crime Stoppers at 1.800.222.8477.
