North Vancouver Green candidate stunned after finding damage to campaign office

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Whether it was a failed break-in or vandalism, the North Vancouver candidate for the Green Party says it’s uncalled for.

George Orr says he and others were stunned to find glass portion of the door to their campaign office smashed this morning.

“You know, it’s a shame, because I’ve got an office full of volunteers. There are 14 people in here right now. And they don’t need to be nervous about what’s going on,” he says. “This just creates an anxiety that is not needed. This is an election around ideas, and that’s where it should stay.”

Orr says it appears nothing was taken. No one was hurt, and it’s since been reported to North Vancouver RCMP.

“[It] hadn’t been smashed right through, because the plastic coating kept it intact, but people coming to work here are kind of nervous because [they] didn’t know what happened, didn’t know why it had happened. It’s jarring to see something like this; not expected.”

He says aside from damaged campaign signs, which he says each candidate in his riding has had to deal with, Orr and his staff hadn’t seen anything like this before today.

“Feelings aren’t terribly high in this election, but they’re pretty high, and there’s always people that go, you know, the ones that destroy campaign signs. So there’s a degree of vandalism everywhere in this, and our concern is that it might be that, and it might just be kids. It’s hard to know.”

Orr isn’t sure as to how much the damage will cost to repair.
