VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The young man charged with second-degree murder in the death of 19-year-old Bhavkiran “Kiran” Dhesi in Surrey more than two years ago has been granted bail.

The BC Prosecution Service has confirmed the conditions for Harjot Singh Deo amount to house arrest.

“On October 11, Harjot Singh Deo was granted $750,000 surety bail with a deposit of $50,000,” Dan McLaughlin with the BC Prosecution Service says in an email to NEWS 1130.

Dhesi’s body was found in a burned-out SUV in the area of 24th Avenue near 188 Street on Aug. 2, 2017.

Police say Deo had been in a relationship with Dhesi, who had received a life-saving kidney transplant six months before her death.

The man was arrested at Vancouver International Airport and charged with second-degree murder in May of this year when he returned from a trip.

Deo’s mother and sister also face charges in connection to the case, and two additional members of his family were taken into police custody.

All five people charged in the case are set to be back in court on Nov. 13.
