Seniors in Chilliwack lose $1,100 deposit after moving company didn’t deliver

CHILLIWACK (NEWS 1130) – As if moving across the country wasn’t stressful enough, a low-income retiree is angry the company she hired to move her car from Chilliwack to Nova Scotia never showed up, and kept her $1,100 deposit.

Wendy Slaunwhite says the Ontario-based JCR Transportation Inc. was recommended as a reliable option, but after arranging to have the car transported this week, the company has avoided any contact with her and her husband.

The couple had been in touch with the company via email, but now Slaunwhite says her and her husband’s emails are not being returned.

“We haven’t heard anything back from them. We’ve messaged them several times, but nothing. And they wanted half of our money up front, so we sent them half the money, and never heard another thing back,” she says.

“It’s very frustrating to know that I paid this money out, and nothing is being done. They get to keep our money.”

She says her car was supposed to be sent out to Nova Scotia, but now it has to be stored at a body shop in Chilliwack for the winter.

“My husband was going to fly back in the spring, and drive the car home,” she says.

They filed a complaint with Chilliwack RCMP who have confirmed they are investigating this as a possible case of fraud.

“We were looking for our deposit, but it doesn’t look like we’re going to get it [back],” says Slaunwhite.

The online service which recommended JCR, a company called Shiply, is no longer listing it as a reliable shipper.

NEWS 1130’s also reached out to JCR Transportation for a response.
