NEWS 1130’s Worst Commute winner covers 244 km on a bad day, with four kids

MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS 1130) – This week’s winner in Vancouver’s Worst Commute contest bounces back and forth multiple times between work, school and sports all around the Lower Mainland.

Marie Van de Leur says she covers roughly 244 kilometres of zig-zags on a bad day — usually twice a week — mostly with four kids in the vehicle!

“It’s so noisy. The rule is, though, if anyone’s talking, the radio stays off. But if they stop talking, the radio stays on,” she says with a laugh. “The best way that I can keep them quiet.”

It’s a long haul for Marie, who says her day starts in Maple Ridge, where she and her family live.

“My kids go to school in Mission. Then I go to work in Abbotsford. Then I pick up my kids at school in Mission, bring them home to Maple Ridge, and then I have to bring my two boys from Maple Ridge to Abbotsford for sports, and then I come home.”

Some days she even adds a trip to Delta into the mix for work.

“Fortunately, I like my car, so I’m good,” she adds.

Marie gets $500 for her epic back-and-forth drives, thanks to our partners at Toyo Tires. NEWS 1130 would like to thank everyone who submitted an entry.
