Chilliwack fire crews respond to fire caused by extension cord

By

CHILLIWACK (NEWS 1130) – A home in Chilliwack was slightly damaged after an extension cord started a fire Saturday night.

Fire crews say a freezer was plugged into the cord, which was coiled up and had a box on it causing it to over-heat.

It happened around 8:00 p.m. near Dunbar Street and Mayfair Avenue.

The home-owner managed to douse it by himself with some water.

The home has some damage, but the people living there were allowed to go back in that night.

Fire crews are reminding you that big appliances should be plugged into the wall outlet, not an extension cord.
