TORONTO – A man is under arrest in Toronto after scaling a building and climbing a crane — all while packing a parachute.
The 30-year-old man busted into the site of a condo tower under construction in the downtown area around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, local time.
The building is expected to be about 58 storeys high once it’s complete. Fire crews climbed up to where he was and apparently convinced him to climb down off of the crane, which sits atop the tower.
Look up. Waaaaay up. A 30 y/o man broke into this construction site at Yonge/Yorkville Av & climbed up 58 storeys to crane on roof planning to jump off with parachute. Fire crews got him to come down. The thrill seeker didn’t get to jump but did get charged with B&E/mischief pic.twitter.com/l4wpy8MFvb

The thrill-seeker told police he was hoping to do some base jumping.
“I think that he’s an idiot, for sure,” one passerby said.
Construction workers building the tower say the man is lucky he wasn’t killed just walking around up there without a harness.
“If it gets really windy up there, I mean, it could blow you off the building,” one worker said.
“I work in construction and I wouldn’t go up there without any safety equipment,” another added.
While he didn’t get to jump, he did get slapped with charges of break and enter and mischief.
