Unsung Hero: Longtime New West knitter makes toques for those in need

By

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS 1130) – The latest winner in the NEWS 1130 Unsung Hero contest is Agnes Oosten from New Westminster. She was nominated by Gloria Williamson.

Agnes is a longtime knitter who makes toques for those who need a lift up — homeless people, children of parents who are struggling, crew members of foreign ships arriving in Vancouver Harbour, and even children around the world who have never received a gift before.

“If someone brings her wool, she knits it up into toques or socks for whoever needs them,” Gloria says. “This lady is not a young person, but knitting [for others] keeps her going.”

Alpine Credits is acknowledging Agnes with $500 for her efforts. They’re also donating $1,000 to the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation.
