Burnaby-based security firm accused of failing to pay dozens of employees

BURNABY (NEWS 1130) – Dozens of workers at a Burnaby-based security company are still waiting to be paid, months after cheques from their boss started bouncing.

Former supervisor Sameer Aslami is one of 67 employees with SecuriWorld Canada Security Services who he says have been demanding compensation since July. He says he’s owed at least $1,500.

“None of us got paid. Everybody in the management hasn’t been paid still – I don’t have any special powers,” he says. “I’m just trying to help everybody that I can get their money.”

He says the workers can’t afford a lawyer, so they’re hoping B.C.’s employment standards branch can help them.

“They have bumped us up from many months to expediting, but we just don’t know when we’re going to get paid,” he says.

Burnaby RCMP has confirmed a complaint was filed against the company back in July.

The Better Business Bureau has also received complaints about the business, and it is not accredited. Archives of company’s now-defunct website indicated it was previously BBB-accredited.

NEWS 1130 has also reached out to a company director for comment.
