New trial set for man accused of sexual assaulting Tinder date

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A new trial will go forward after an appeal in the case of a man who’d been previously convicted of sexual assault stemming from a Tinder date at the Vancouver Rowing Club back in August of 2015.

39-year-old Andrew Grant was given a four-year sentence in B.C. Supreme Court a year ago after three reported incidents took place on his sailboat in the summer of 2015 that he claimed was consensual.

One incident allegedly involved a woman that Grant had connected with on the dating app ‘Tinder’.

The judges now say there were missteps in measuring the credibility of Grant, who they had initially described as “treacherous and predatory” during the first trial.

But questions about Grant’s dating and sexual history were used in the proceedings, and his defense claims that Grant’s dating history had been unfairly used.

A different panel of judges has determined those questions were used to unfairly paint Grant in a bad light during the initial trial.
