‘It is shameful’: Thunberg calls for action on climate change at Vancouver rally

Greta's climate tour continues across Canada with a stop Friday in Vancouver. Travis Prasad explains.

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Criticizing the inaction of previous generations on climate change, Greta Thunberg says leaders need to take meaningful action as she visits Vancouver.

The 16-year-old Swedish teen Thunberg addressed thousands of students at the latest climate strike at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

She says what has happened isn’t good enough, and we need to set a different course.

“It is shameful that so long, the on-going climate and ecological emergency has been ignored. It is the year 2019 and the people in power are still acting as if there was no tomorrow.”

Beyond the rally at the art gallery, Thunberg also marched through the downtown core accompanied by an estimated 8,000 people.

In the build-up to her speech, Thunberg was treated like a rock star, and the students were fixated as their hero called on leaders to change course and heed the advice of scientists.

“If world leaders would have started to take action back then, when this crisis became known to them, then imagine the sufferings that could have been prevented,” she says.
