VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – This week’s winner in Vancouver’s Worst Commute contest sometimes spends up to eight hours a day in his car.
Andy Kwan, 34, works in the forest industry. He wakes up at 4:30 a.m. every day to drive from Coquitlam, where he lives, to his office in Squamish.
“Head out the door by 5:15, make it to Squamish by 6:30, and I probably get to the worksite around nine in the morning,” he says.
The forest engineer says he typically drives at least a couple of hours north past Pemberton to his company’s worksite, where he stays until 3:30 p.m. He usually heads back to the office for the last few hours of the day.
Andy then drives up to another two hours home to Coquitlam, but of course that time depends on traffic on the Second Narrows Bridge and in the Burnaby Lake stretch.
“It usually takes me about an hour to get to Squamish, an hour and a bit, and then probably another couple of hours, so that’s three. I’d probably say that’s six hours – about six hours in a regular day,” he tells NEWS 1130, adding he can log up to 400 km a day driving to and from work.
Andy gets $500 for his epic back-and-forth drives, thanks to our partners at Toyo Tires. NEWS 1130 would like to thank everyone who submitted an entry.
