Hydro restored to almost all BC customers

RICHMOND (NEWS 1130) – Hydro crews have restored power to almost all customers affected by storm-related outages Friday.

According to BC Hydro, more than 120,000 customers were affected throughout the day. At its peak, power was out for outage 79,000 customers.

“Any time there is a wind event it brings down trees and anytime you bring something down onto lines that have live electricity going through them there’s all sorts of logistical challenges. The first consideration is safety,” says Jess Hastings, a spokesperson for BC Hydro. “Crews have to be extremely cautious.”

By Friday evening, about 1,000 customers in the Lower Mainland/Sunshine Coast region were still in the dark.

Customers in Chase, Sicamous, Salmon Arm, Dawson Creek and 100 Mile House have been advised to be prepared to remain without power overnight.

There are also reports of trees down throughout the city of Vancouver. If you see a downed tree or traffic lights that are out, you’re asked to call 311 to report it right away.
