NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS 1130) — Two days after a disturbing assault on a bus in Burnaby was filmed and shared on social media Transit Police say they’ve found a suspect.

The video, posted to Facebook Tuesday, shows a passenger spitting on a bus driver after repeatedly kicking the closed doors of the bus. The woman who posted the video says it happened on the 123 bus at around 4:20 p.m. near Hardwick and Canada Way in Burnaby.

The suspect was identified on Thursday.

“Transit Police were notified by Burnaby RCMP, that they had identified the suspect involved in this assault after apprehending him under the Mental Health Act for an unrelated matter. Arresting officers recognized the man as the suspect in the social media post,” according to a release. “Given the medical circumstances surrounding this file, no further information will be provided at this time.”

The man has not been charged.
