VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Temporary shelters open Friday across British Columbia as part of the provincial government’s cold weather strategy.

The government says just over 1,300 temporary shelter spaces and more than 800 extreme weather response shelter spaces will be available until March 31 of next year.

They supplement the more than 2,000 emergency year-round spaces available across B.C.

Vancouver says 329 temporary shelter spaces will be open in the city this year — the most ever — on top of the 900 shelter beds permanently available in the city.
