Motive for Halloween murder in Chilliwack remains a mystery: IHIT

CHILLIIWACK (NEWS 1130) — A 26-year-old man found dead on a remote road in Chilliwack Friday morning was the victim of a targeted murder, according to investigators.
“There were injuries consistent with foul play that were noted on our victim’s body,” says Sgt. Frank Jang with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team. “The victim was known to police and we believe he was targeted for murder.”
The man has been identified as Jordan Smyth. He was found wearing a black zip-up hoodie, grey sweatpants and running shoes.

Smyth’s body was found around 7 a.m. Friday in an open outdoor area along Sleepy Hollow Road near Cultus Lake.
Jang says the motive remains a mystery and forensic teams are scouring the area for physical evidence.
“We’re especially appealing to anyone who knew him well–his friends, his family–anyone who can really shed light on what may have happened to him Thursday.”

Although the area isn’t generally well-travelled, Jang says the fact that it was Halloween night could have meant more traffic.
Police are appealing for dash-cam footage from anyone who was driving in the area.
They are also urging anyone with information to contact them by calling 1-877-551-4448 or emailing ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
