VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – This week’s winner in Vancouver’s Worst Commute contest spends more than five-and-a-half hours travelling to and from school every day.

Martijn Van Ramshorst leaves home at 5:45 a.m., takes a combination of trains and buses from Abbotsford to Regent College at the University of British Columbia, goes to a full day of classes and then makes the trip home, returning at 5:45 p.m.

“I take the 31 bus from Abbotsford to Mission Station. From there I take the 6:25 a.m. West Coast Express train which takes 75 minutes to get to Waterfront Station. I then take the 44 bus to UBC and walk another seven minutes to Regent College,” he says. “I arrive around 8:20 a.m. after a commute of two-and-a-half hours.”

Martijn says the trip home usually takes even longer.

Martijn gets $500 for this epic back-and-forth commute, thanks to our partners at Toyo Tires. NEWS 1130 would like to thank everyone who submitted an entry.

Cash prizes are awarded every Friday through November 15. And not to worry, if you don’t win the cash, you still qualify for our grand prize of an all-inclusive Sunwing Vacation for two to Punta Cana, complete with return airfare and seven-nights accommodation at the Riu Naiboa Hotel and Resort.
