TORONTO (680 NEWS) – The cleanup continues on Tuesday after record-breaking snowfall — which arrived more than a month before winter starts — left Toronto roads and sidewalks a mess.

Snow started to fall in the region on Monday morning and continued into the overnight hours. The Greater Toronto Area was under a winter weather travel advisory from Environment Canada but it since been lifted.

Pearson International Airport received 13 centimetres of snow, beating the record of three centimetres set in 1983.

The region is also seeing near record cold temperatures. As of 7 a.m., the temperature hit -7.9 C, breaking the record of -7.8 C set in 1937.

680 NEWS meteorologist Jill Taylor said the windchill will make it feel like -15 C on Tuesday and will dip further to -22 overnight. She said a few flurries are possible for the GTA and potential snow squalls for the snowbelts.
