TORONTO (680 NEWS) – A toddler has died after being struck by a falling air conditioning unit in Scarborough, Ontario.

Emergency crews were called to the scene just before 3:30 p.m. on Monday at Lawrence Avenue East and Mossbank Drive in the Toronto area.

Police say the two-year-old girl was in a stroller being pushed by her mother, returning to their apartment building via the rear door, when the unit fell from the eighth floor.

It landed on the girl and the stroller, and both were crushed.

The child suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a trauma centre where she died overnight.

Police are still investigating what caused the air conditioning unit to fall out of the window.
