Hundreds expected at striking hotel workers’ rally in Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Striking workers at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia will be among an expected 300 people at a demonstration in downtown Vancouver on Thursday at 5:00 p.m.

UNITE HERE Local 40 says it will be back at the bargaining table with hotel management on Friday, but the rally is to mark the eighth week its members have been on strike.

In September, over 1,200 workers went on strike at four high-end hotels in Vancouver. Three of the four agreed to contracts last month.

200 Rosewood Hotel Georgia workers remain on strike, demanding better wages, stable jobs and improved safety conditions.

Those striking include front desk agents, room attendants, chefs and other many others.
