NANAIMO (NEWS 1130) — One year after a retired Abbotsford police officer was killed in a car crash, a 23-year-old man has been charged.

Conrad Wetten is facing one count of driving with undue care and attention, and will next be in court on December 17th.

Last November, retired Sgt. Shinder Kirk was involved in a head-on crash in Nanaimo and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Kirk served as a media relations officer for the Abbotsford Police, and also worked in the Integrated Gang Task Force and the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit.

Court documents show Wetten had been pulled over by police just two weeks before the fatal crash – for excessive speeding, driving without current license plates and not displaying his ‘N’ sign.
