The Latest: Detective hurt in chase, shooting at hospital

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Latest on a shooting at a Colorado hospital (all times local):

6:15 p.m.

Police say a detective was injured during a foot chase and shooting on the campus of a Colorado hospital, and the suspect fled in a stolen vehicle.

KOAA-TV reports the suspect, Randy Bishop, was wanted on multiple warrants and was taken into custody following a traffic accident Monday.

Police say he was being taken to UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central near downtown Colorado Springs for a medical check when he ran away. As he was being tackled, police say he grabbed the detective’s weapon and fired at least one shot. KKTV reports the detective was not shot but was left with minor injuries.

Bishop allegedly stole a silver BMW and is being sought on multiple charges, including attempted homicide. Investigators believe he still has the detective’s gun.

The hospital was briefly locked down but is now operating as normal.

Police say they are investigating after shots were fired at a Colorado hospital and the shooter fled in a stolen vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Lt. James Sokolik says officers were called Monday to UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central in Colorado Springs and surrounded the building. He said the shooting happened on the hospital campus but would not say if it was inside or outside the hospital, which was briefly locked down.

A woman who answered the phone at the hospital referred questions to police.

No other information has been released.
