Public hearing continues in proposed Delta high-rise

DELTA (NEWS 1130) – A proposed high-rise in Delta is getting a lot of attention from people in the community and the debate over whether it should move forward is set to continue Wednesday evening.

Community members and city councillors will again be talking about whether a 35-storey high-rise should go up at 75A Ave. and Scott Rd. Councillor Dylan Kruger says more than 100 people have spoken so far, from different generations.

“I can’t believe the number of younger people that have been coming out too, to voice their concerns. We really traditionally haven’t seen that. I think that it just speaks to the need, it speaks to the fact that people are desperate for this type of housing in our community.”

He adds the arguments in favour of the project have included a need for more housing options, particularly for young people and seniors looking to downsize.

“Those who are against, I think [have] concerns primarily regarding traffic, changes to viewscapes, and issues such of that have been discussed.”

Kruger acknowledges the building would be a change to the character of the community, especially for people who have lived there for decades.

The public hearing is set to continue at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
