Abbotsford Tory rejects Scheer’s offer of critic role

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) – There’s a riff between a local, long-time Tory MP and party leader Andrew Scheer.

Abbotsford MP Ed Fast has rejected Andrew Scheer’s request to join his Shadow Cabinet, saying the party’s leader should be surrounded by a team that supports his leadership.

“Mr. Scheer and I recently had a conversation about where I could fit into his Shadow Cabinet, and I expressed my desire not to be included at this time,” he said in a statement provided to the Abbotsford News.

“Mr. Scheer is entitled to surround himself with a team that fully supports his leadership. I am looking forward to remaining fully engaged in the affairs of our caucus and to holding Justin Trudeau’s government to account for its actions.”

He said the Conservatives had a “great platform” in the election campaign fronted by Scheer, and that the election results “aren’t reflective of the type of platform” the party had.

But he also says the party did everything it could during the campaign.
