Great breakfast for a great cause: Loving Spoonful back for another year of The Great Big Give

A Loving Spoonful's Great Big Give breakfast fundraiser returns to Mary's on Davie for another year of fun to raise money to provide nutritious meals to those living with HIV/AIDS.

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Bring an empty stomach and your generosity this Friday, as a Loving Spoonful’s Great Big Give Breakfast returns for another year.

This year marks a big milestone for the charity, which helps those living with HIV-AIDS.

“It’s our 30th year of service to the community, so we’re really proud,” Charity director Lisa Martella said. “We’ve served millions of meals, free, to our communities to support those in need.”

A $5 donation gets you breakfast, while $20 lets you enter in a surprise gift raffle, with all the proceeds going to fund a Loving Spoonful’s meal programs.

Martella stressed the importance of nutritious meals, especially for those who are down on their luck and battling HIV-AIDS.

“Last year, we know from our statistics, it shows that there was approximately 2,500 new infections in Canada, so it still says that organizations like ours are relevant, people are still in need,” she said. “It’s really important that people have nutrition. While they’re taking medication, the adherence is better to the medication. A lot of medications need to happen with food, so organizations like A Loving Spoonful play a really important role in people getting a lot better.”

Join Morning Show host Amanda Wawryk at Mary’s on Davie on Friday. The breakfast runs from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
