SNL cold opening recalls viral conversation had between Trudeau, world leaders about Trump

NEW YORK (NEWS 1130) – Saturday Night Live returned from a two-week break last night with a sketch lampooning Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his hot mic gaffe at the recent NATO summit in London.

The cold open showed Jimmy Fallon as Trudeau, Paul Rudd as French President Emmanuel Macron, and James Corden as British Prime Minister Boris Johnson refusing to let Alec Baldwin’s Donald Trump character sit at their cafeteria table in a scene reminiscent of the film Mean Girls. They also put a note on Trump’s back that read “Impeach Me!”

The Johnson character also makes a joke about Macron’s wife being older, and the Trump character says, “That’s good. I like when it’s mean, but not about me.”

After the incident at the recent NATO summit, in which the three world leaders were captured on video talking about Trump’s long, impromptu press conferences, Trump called Trudeau “two-faced.”

Weekend Update co-host Colin Jost joked about Trudeau later in the show, referencing the Prime Minister’s “blackface” scandal.

“President Trump called Justin Trudeau Two faced after the Canadian Prime Minister was caught making fun of Trump. And it’s true I’ve definitely seen Trudeau with at least one other face,” Jost said, followed by gasps and laughter from the SNL audience as the controversial image was shown.

Trump’s Democratic rival Joe Biden also used the hot mic gaffe in a recent political advertisement as evidence the president is an international laughingstock.
