Wanted woman arrested after hedge theft in Chilliwack caught on video

Surveillance video catches a woman stealing a piece of someone's hedge in Chilliwack before being pulled over by RCMP. The officer recognized her and arrested her in connection to another investigation.

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A woman looking for the perfect Christmas tree was caught green-handed by police in Chilliwack after trying to steal someone else’s hedge.

Surveillance video, posted to Youtube on Dec. 10 by the popular user Robb Iezzi, shows the woman walking across a street at night and approaching the hedge. She then begins a several minute ordeal of pulling and breaking off one of the branches. Just as the branch comes free, a RCMP vehicle drives by.

The woman hoists the branch over her shoulder and crosses the street. That’s when the RCMP vehicle comes back into frame, travelling back towards the woman. The officer turns on their flashing lights and pulls up beside the woman.

In an exchange, the woman can be heard saying “Hi” and “No, I didn’t do that. No I didn’t.”

The video then cuts to the officer arresting the woman, putting her into the vehicle and driving away, leaving the severed branch at the side of the road.

Chilliwack RCMP, who did not identify the woman, said the officer originally pulled her over after noticing her suspicious activity. The officer then recognized her as someone who could be involved in another ongoing investigation and arrested her.
