DELTA (NEWS 1130) – Commuters going north over the Alex Fraser Bridge were a happy bunch Monday morning. Thanks to the new counterflow lane, motorists got to use four lanes across the span.
“We did see that usual volume northbound on the 91 between 64th and 72nd, but before 8 o’clock, that eased off, so things are smooth there and they have been for the remainder of the route straight across the bridge,” Darren Grieve in the NEWS 1130 Air Patrol said during the morning commute.

“Really noticed a difference for Nordel westbound,” he continued. “Normally, that’s backed up to at least the lights at 84th. It hasn’t gotten back even that far today at all.”
But there have been some mixed reviews online. Adding a fourth lane gives more room on the bridge deck, but according to some on Facebook, the back-up has just been moved to the north end of the bridge.
One user said it was smooth sailing except for those “slamming on their brakes at the north end of the bridge.”
Concerns on Facebook about #AlexFraser‘s new choke point.

Others said at least 15 minutes had been shaved off their commute because of the lane.
