BURNABY (NEWS 1130) – If you’re getting calls from the Burnaby RCMP asking for personal information, it’s most likely a scam.
Mounties are warning you of reports that involve a fraudster who is spoofing their Community Police Office.
If you receive a call, you’re being told to hang up if you are at all suspicious of the caller, who may try asking for personal information, cash or money transfers.
If you receive a call from someone saying they are an officer with
Burnaby RCMP and are at all suspicious of the caller, hang up immediately and
do not provide any personal information. Remember that police will never
ask for cash or cash transfers … 2/3— Burnaby RCMP (@BurnabyRCMP) December 17, 2019
Residents can also call the RCMP Main Detachment at 604-646-9999 to confirm if the call was in fact from a real officer.
You can also report the call by contacting Canadian Anti-Fraud by dialing 1-888-495-8501.
