RICHMOND(NEWS 1130) – Last month saw a busy week for the Richmond RCMP. Mounties say 150 drivers were caught speeding along a busy stretch of road in that city, and a handful of those vehicles were impounded.
A traffic enforcement project was held by Mounties near the Sidaway Road Corridor, the site where speeders have often been reported, causing some major safety concerns for the public.
More than 200 vehicles were checked by officers during the morning and afternoon rush hours, between Nov. 17 and Nov. 30.
In one case, a driver was caught going 135 kilometres an hour, more than 85 kilometres over the speed limit.
More than 10 vehicles were impounded due to excessive speeding.
According to the RCMP, speeding drivers cause safety risks for pedestrians as well as cyclists who share Sidaway Road, a narrow two-lane route which is normally very busy with traffic.
