City of Vancouver extends call centre hours in case of flooding

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — As the Fraser Valley continues to get pummelled by rain, the City of Vancouver has extended the hours of its 3-1-1 call centre Thursday night, in case it has to deal with flooding issues.

Godfrey Tait from Vancouver’s engineering department says there have been nine high-priority calls in the late afternoon and into the early evening.

He adds about 24 employees with the sanitation department will be monitoring call volumes and the weather, in order to increase its response if necessary.

A rainfall warning is in effect for the Fraser Valley, which could see up to 70 millimetres throughout the night.
